Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL)

The dashboard "check engine" / service warning light that an ECU illuminates when a confirmed DTC is stored. On EVs the same indicator covers powertrain, BMS and inverter faults. A flashing MIL typically denotes a more severe condition than a steady one.
