Why does the exact Tesla alert ID matter?
Record the exact alert ID, including underscores, suffixes, and companion alerts. Tesla alerts that look similar can point to different modules, timestamps, and service procedures.
What does BMS-F064 mean?
Tesla fault code in the Battery Management System (BMS) module. The Battery Management System (BMS) has detected that there is a brick voltage imbalance in the high voltage (HV) battery pack. If this alert is present, maxBrickV - minBrickV may have grown faster than 25 mV while not driving or maxBrickV - minBrickV may have been > 0.5 V for more than 3 hours while the contactors were open. This alert was formerly named BMS_w064_SW_SOC_Imbalance in firmware versions prior to 17.20.26. If BMS_w064_SW_SOC_Imbalance appears on the vehicle or in the logs, update the vehicle firmware to the current version.

Affected Tesla Models
What You May Notice
- Reduced driving range over time — more than expected degradation
- Battery range estimate is lower than published specs for your vehicle age
- Charging may stop before reaching set limit
How to Diagnose and Resolve
- 1 Monitor: use the Tesla app to track battery health over multiple full charge cycles
- 2 Avoid storing the vehicle at 0% or 100% for extended periods
- 3 Enable daily charge limit of 80–90% for regular use
- 4 If imbalance worsens, avoid DC fast charging
- 5 Schedule a Tesla Service appointment for battery diagnostic — module balancing or replacement may be needed
Severity Notes
BMS-F064 is classified as a Fault, indicating a critical issue in the Battery Management System system. Do not continue driving and contact Tesla Service immediately.
