Why does the exact Tesla alert ID matter?

Record the exact alert ID, including underscores, suffixes, and companion alerts. Tesla alerts that look similar can point to different modules, timestamps, and service procedures.

What does CHG-F018 mean?

Tesla fault code in the Charger (CHG) module. The charging process was interrupted by the complex programmable logic device (CPLD) due to a very sudden increase of line current above the limit threshold. The alert may be falsely set due to extreme AC line voltage disturbances from other equipment. The Gen 1 charger spec defines the alert as line peak over-current trip level shall be <= 85A with a response time < 1us. The Gen 2 charger spec defines the alert as greater than 33A (tolerance of +/- 1.7A) per phase board.

What You May Notice

  • Charger alert: The charging process was interrupted by the complex programmable logic device (CPLD) due to a very sudden increase of li
  • Vehicle shows charging error immediately after plugging in
  • Charge port light stays red or does not respond

How to Diagnose and Resolve

  1. 1 Try a different outlet or charging cable
  2. 2 Check if your circuit breaker has tripped
  3. 3 Reboot the vehicle and attempt to charge again
  4. 4 Schedule a Tesla Service appointment โ€” the on-board charger may need replacement

Severity Notes

CHG-F018 is classified as a Fault, indicating a critical issue in the Charger system. Do not continue driving and contact Tesla Service immediately.
