Why does the exact Tesla alert ID matter?
Record the exact alert ID, including underscores, suffixes, and companion alerts. Tesla alerts that look similar can point to different modules, timestamps, and service procedures.
What does DI-U017 mean?
Tesla unknown code in the Drive Inverter (DI) module. This alert indicates that the tire and wheel setup has changed from a square (equal diameter) set to a staggered (different diameters) set or vice-versa. For example, if 19" wheels are installed on a P85+, this alert will be triggered. Currently (2.2.140), it is not shown to the customer, but that may change when more data has been collected. The alert contains information about what the fitment was changed to. The alert is not set if the module reasserts the same tire fitment or when the wear factors get reset to default for other reasons, such as EEPROM corruption, etc. The alert shall only be set once per key cycle. This is controlled by the tire detection algorithm, not the alert specific code. The silent user alert will not clear, with exception of a power cycle, meaning there is no clearing logic in the code.

Affected Tesla Models
What You May Notice
- DI-U017 may appear with another Tesla alert in the Drive Inverter (DI) system.
- The vehicle may limit charging, driving, comfort, or safety features depending on the active alerts.
- The alert may clear after sleep, but recurring alerts should be treated as service-relevant.
How to Diagnose and Resolve
- 1 Reboot the vehicle (hold both scroll wheels)
- 2 Check for pending OTA software updates
- 3 Monitor for recurrence over the next few days; schedule service if needed
Severity Notes
DI-U017 is a diagnostic or informational code in the Drive Inverter system. Typically no immediate action is required.
